About Above the Light
Above the Light was created as a dream and labor of love to provide a safe space for healing, growth, and transformation.

Above the Light began as a solo therapy practice with the goal of helping others grow and navigate life's challenges. Over time, it became clear that healing does not only happen through talking. Healing happens through the body, through movement, through breath, through safe spaces and community.

Above the Light's current mission is to help individuals, especially women and helping professionals, heal through somatic and trauma informed approaches that align the mind and the body.

Above the Light offers trauma informed therapy to support the whole person.
At Above the Light we believe that LOVE IS LOVE IS LOVE, BLACK LIVES MATTER, AND NO HUMAN IS ILLEGAL.

About Me

My name is Jenny Lemus, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois and founder of Above the Light. I was born and raised in Chicago by parents who immigrated from Guatemala, and I identify as Latinx. I am bilingual (Spanish) and bicultural, and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I earned my undergraduate degree from DePaul University and my Master’s degree from Saint Xavier University. My passion for mental health began in high school and has since grown into over 15 years of experience across community mental health, inpatient and outpatient settings, and hospital-based care.

I transitioned into private practice in 2019 to create a space that aligned more deeply with my values. After taking a year long break in 2024 to address burnout and reconnect with myself, I returned to private practice in mid 2025 with renewed clarity and purpose. Through Above the Light, my mission is to provide a space rooted in empathy, empowerment, and self love, where healing supports the whole person: mind, body, and nervous system.

I specialize in supporting women through a women’s empowerment framework, as well as working with therapists and helping professionals who often find themselves overwhelmed, burned out, or disconnected from their bodies. My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, intergenerational and complex trauma, vicarious trauma, relationship challenges, self esteem and identity concerns, Latinx experiences, and first generation acculturation conflicts.

Somatic interventions are at the heart of my work. I integrate body based approaches to help clients reconnect with their internal experiences and foster deeper healing. My practice incorporates mindfulness, breathwork, movement, and modalities such as Brainspotting (Level 2), Reiki, and inner child work. I am also currently completing my 200-hour yoga teacher training and have completed a 48-hour domestic violence training.

My therapeutic style is compassionate, grounding, and nonjudgmental. I am often described as having a calming presence, and I strive to create a space where all parts of you are welcomed with curiosity and care. I believe that self compassion and self love is a foundational part of healing.

**I currently offer individual therapy via telehealth throughout the state of Illinois and have limited availability. If you are interested in working together, please reach out via email to inquire about current openings or to schedule a brief consultation to determine if we are a good fit. I would be honored to support you in your journey.

“You deserve the best, the very best, because you are one of the few people in this world who are honest with themselves, and that is the only thing that really counts.”
